New on the map — not new on the ground

We were building in Gloucestershire before we put it on the website.

APMBuild has already completed a garden gym building in Newent — footings to finished render — built by the same APMBuild team that works across Herefordshire, ten minutes' drive away — which is the honest geography of this page: the north and west of Gloucestershire are simply the near side of our working radius, and in 2026 we made that official.

Coverage runs from Newent and the Forest of Dean through Gloucester and Tewkesbury to Cheltenham. The services are the ones we run everywhere: house extensions and renovations, whole-house refurbishment, and the energy-performance layer that separates us from the county's general builders — PHPP pre-assessment before work starts, Passive House-trained detailing during it, and European materials supply at typically 20–30% below UK-equivalent pricing.

EnerPHit-route deep retrofit is in development — first projects now being scoped — and Gloucestershire's mix of period townhouses and exposed rural stock is precisely where that service is headed.

Building in Gloucestershire

Four planning authorities, two rivers, one very protective landscape.

Planning. Our coverage area spans four districts — Forest of Dean, Gloucester City, Tewkesbury Borough and Cheltenham Borough — each with its own local plan. The practical difference shows in conservation areas: Cheltenham's Regency townscape is covered by some of the most extensive conservation-area designations of any English town, with Article 4 directions removing permitted development rights in places. What a homeowner can do without permission in Gloucester may need a full application two junctions up the A40.

Water. Tewkesbury's flood history needs no introduction — the Severn and Avon meet there — and flood-zone designations shape what's buildable along both rivers. On the western edge, the Wye's catchment scrutiny reaches the county boundary. Either way, we check the water question at feasibility stage.

Materials. At the Cotswolds' edge and in the Forest, planning authorities can and do require specific materials — natural stone, particular roof coverings, conservation joinery. Our European supply chain includes high-performance windows and doors in conservation-appropriate formats, which is often the difference between a planning battle and a consent.

Work in and near the county

Gloucestershire work, and what sits just over the line.

Our completed Gloucestershire job is the garden gym at Newent, on the Herefordshire border. The second photograph is from just across that border. We would rather show you real work in the wrong county than stock photography in the right one.

FAQ

Gloucestershire building questions

Extensions, renovations and energy-efficient building across our Gloucestershire coverage.

Which parts of Gloucestershire does APMBuild cover?

The north and west of the county sit within about an hour of our Hereford base: Newent, the Forest of Dean and Coleford, Gloucester, Tewkesbury and Cheltenham. That's the area we can build in with the same team and the same logistics as our home county — and we added it formally to our stated coverage in 2026 after completing work in Newent.

Have you completed projects in Gloucestershire?

Yes — a rendered garden gym building in Newent, on the Herefordshire–Gloucestershire border, is part of our completed portfolio. The rest of our completed work sits minutes away across the county line around Ross-on-Wye and Ledbury. We don't pad this page with invented local case studies.

Can you build in the Cotswolds National Landscape?

Within our radius the relevant designations are more often the Wye Valley National Landscape and the Forest of Dean; Cheltenham sits at the Cotswolds' edge, where National Landscape and conservation-area rules can require specific materials and tighter design justification. We price those constraints realistically — natural stone, lime mortars and conservation-grade details cost more than volume housebuilding, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.

Who are the planning authorities in your Gloucestershire coverage area?

Four districts cover our patch: Forest of Dean District Council in the west, Gloucester City Council, Tewkesbury Borough Council, and Cheltenham Borough Council. Each has its own local plan and conservation-area rules — Cheltenham's in particular are extensive, with Article 4 directions tightening permitted development in parts of the town.

What's different about APMBuild versus a local Gloucestershire builder?

We combine three things no builder currently active in the county advertises together: Passive House training at director level, PHPP energy modelling (pre-assessment directly, certified models via our PHI-accredited partner), and a direct European supply chain for windows, insulation and doors at typically 20–30% below UK-equivalent pricing. General building quality you can get locally; quantified energy performance is the gap we fill.
